A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE CAL POLY POMONA
AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY FAIRPLEX COORDINATED
PROPOSAL FOR THF, SECOND AMAZON HEADQUARTERS IN
NORTH AMERICA
WHEREAS, on Thursday, September 7, 2017, Amazon announced that it is seeking to
open a second company headquarters in North America and will conduct an extensive search to
decide on a new location; and
WHEREAS, the new headquarters expects to invest over $5 billion in construction and
bring up to 50,000 new full-time jobs; and
WHEREAS, with upwards of 450 acres of land available at Cal Poly Pomona and the
potential of an additional 100 acres at the Los Angeles County Fairplex, there is substantial room
to construct a world-class headquarters complex in the neighboring community; and
WHEREAS, the City of West Covina is one of the neighboring communities with a
residential base that provides potential working professionals for the new headquarters; and
WHEREAS, an Amazon.com headquarters in one of our neighboring cities will not only
provide internship opportunities for future students looking to start their careers, but also job
opportunities for residents in our community; and
WHEREAS, an Amazon.com Headquarters would also boost future economic
development in the City of West Covina and the entire San Gabriel Valley by attracting new
businesses to the region who may have not heard otherwise about the area.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA,
CALIFORNIA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Support the Cal Poly Pomona and Los Angeles County Fairplcx coordinated
proposal for the second Amazon headquarters.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED this 17t1 day of October 2017.
