RESOLUTION NO. 2016-16 — A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF WEST COVINIA, CALIFORNIA ESTABLISHING THE
INTERN CLASS SPECIFICATION AND DELETING THE PLANNING
INTERN CLASS SPECFICATIONS WITHIN THE LIMITED SERVICES
COMPENSATION SCHEDULE
The City Council of the City of West Covina does resolve as follows:
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to implement the City of West Covina Internship
Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST COVINA AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Intern class specification is adopted (Exhibit 1).
SECTION 2. The Planning Intern and Software Developer Intern class specifications
are remove from the job classification plan.
SECTION 2. The pay range for the Intem class specification is adopted (Exhibit 2).
SECTION 3. That this resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage and
adoption.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on this 16"' day of February, 2016.

Under general sUpervision, interns perforin a wide variety of entry level to difficult technical
duties in support of a segment of departmental activity.
Essential Functions
1. Prepare dociuments utilizing one or more software programs.
2. Assembles and distributes correspondence and other materials.
3. Schedules meetings and appointments,
4. Prepares and distribute and organizes documents, such as agreements, contracts,
resolutions, agendas, and reports; prepares mailings; prepares standard forms and r'elated
records according to established procedirres,
Conducts research and compiles reports from a variety of sources.
6. Assists in the performance of administrative tasks.
Receives visitors and answers telephone, responds to inquiries, provides information
requiring an understanding of department policies and procedures.

Intems are assigned to an operational job title based on their level of education and individual
background and experience:
Administrative/Council intern - students ciurently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in a
freshman or sophomore standing or enrolled in a graduate level courses with a focus/emphasis on

finance, business administration, management, public administration, or human resources.
Engineering Intern - students currently emolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a
focus/emphasis in civil engineering or computer science, in a junior, senior standing or enrolled
in a graduate level program.
Planning Intern - students currently emolled in a Bachelor's degree program with a
focus/emphasis inLplanning in ajunior, senior standing or enrolled in a graduate level program
Senior Administrative/Council. Intern - students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree
program in a junior or senior standing or enrolled in a graduate level courses -with a
focus/emphasis an fmance, business administration, management, public administration, or
human resources.
Software Development Intern — students currently enrolled in an Associates of Arts or
Bachelor's degree program in information technology or related field.
Veteran Intern — a member of the U.S. Armed Forces who is entering the civilian woildorce
and is interested in exploring local government career opportunities aid seeking to gain valuable
work experience.
Physical Requirements: This position requires extensive and repetitive physical activity
involving the arms, -wrists, and hands, including writing and using a keyboard. It also requires
physical abilities associated with the ability to read, write and communicate in EL woTic
environment requiring no extraordinary physical strength or other special physical qualifications
