RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA DECLARING ITS SUPPORT FOR AB 1010 (HERNANDEZ) TO
EXTEND THE SUNSET OF THE SAN GABRIEL WATER QUALITY
AUTHORITY BASIN TO JULY 1, 2020
WHEREAS, Assemblyman Dr. Ed Hernandez has introduced AB 1010 regarding the
San Gabriel Basin Water. Quality Authority Act; and
WHEREAS, the passage of AB 1010 would extend the sunset provision of the San
Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority from Julyl, 2010 to July 1, 2020; and
WHEREAS, the groundwater in the Main San Gabriel Basin is the primary source of
drinking water for over 1,000,000 residents of the San Gabriel Valley; and.
WHEREAS, the effective and timely cleanup of the Main San Gabriel Basin is critical to
preventing or minimizing, to the maximum extent feasible, the migration of contaminated
groundwater from the Main San Gabriel Basin into the Central and West Water Basins; and
WHEREAS, AB 1010 will allow the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority to
continue its efforts at implementing the immediate cleanup of contaminated groundwater
necessary to restore safe and reliable water supplies for drinking water, public health and fire
suppression purposes for approximately one million people in the San Gabriel Valley who rely
upon the groundwater for their water supply.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST COVINA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of West Covina hereby declares its support for AB 1010 and the
completion of the clean up of the San Gabriel Basin.
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and
forward a copy to the following entities: San Gabriel Water Quality Authority, San Gabriel
Valley Council of Governments, and all federal and State elected officials representing West
Covina; and
Section 3. That this resolution shall become effective immediately upon passage and
adoption.
