RESOLUTION NO. 2007-39
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA DECLARING ITS SUPPORT FOR HR 123 (DREIER) TO
PROVIDE $50 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL FEDERAL FUNDING FOR
THE CLEAN UP OF THE SAN GABRIEL BASIN
WHEREAS, Congressman David Dreier has introduced HR 123 regarding the San
Gabriel Basin Restoration Fund; and
WHEREAS, the passage of HR 123 Will increase the authorization of the San Gabriel
Basin Restoration Fund from $85 million to $135 million; and
WHEREAS, The San Gabriel Basin Water Restoration Fund has provided over $61
million for groundwater cleanup in the Main San Gabriel Basin and Central Basin; and
WHEREAS, HR 123 would provide an additional $50 million for critically needed
funding for the restoration and removal of harmful contaminants from the groundwater basin;
and
WHEREAS, The additional funding will allow the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality
Authority to continue implementing the immediate cleanup of contaminated groundwater
necessary to restore a safe and reliable water supply for drinking water, public health and fire
suppression purposes for approximately 1.2 million people in the San Gabriel Valley who rely
upon the groundwater for their water supply; and
WHEREAS, the funding will allow the basin to maintain a stable rate structure and
lessen the impact on local residents and businesses in the San Gabriel Valley.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST COVINA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City of West Covina hereby declares its support for HR 123 and the
completion of the clean up of the San Gabriel Basin.
Section 2. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution and
forward a copy to the following entities: San Gabriel Water Quality Authority, San Gabriel
Valley Council of Governments, and all federal and State elected officials representing West
Covina; and
Section 3.
