A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION 104 DESIGNATING A PORTION OF THE INTERSTATE-
10 THROUGH THE CITY OF WEST COVINA AS THE "KENNETH S.'
WREDE MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"
• WHEREAS Officer Kenneth Scott Wrede of the West Covina Police Department was
killed in the line of duty on August 31, 1983, in West Covina while responding to a call of a
suspicious person; and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede faithfully served the residents of West Covina; and was a
longtime resident of Southern California and a 1975 graduate of Katella High School in
Anaheim; and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede received his Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from
Fullerton College and was pursuing his Bachelor's Degree; and
WHEREAS it is appropriate to recognize the hazardous work, serious responsibility, and
strong commitment that Officer Wrede willingly accepted during his career as a law enforcement
officer; and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede is remembered as a passionate husband to his wife Denel; and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede is remembered as a loving son to his parents, Marianne and
Kenneth Wrede Sr. and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede was a thoughtful sibling to his sisters, Nicki, Karen, and
Kerry Jo; and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede was a man who committed his life, religious beliefs, and his
career to the City of West Covina and the safety of its residents; and
WHEREAS Officer Wrede's death leaves a painful void in the lives of his family and all
whose lives he touched.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of West
Covina, California, urges the California State Legislature and Assembly to designate Interstate
Highway 10 located within the boundaries of the City of West Covina as the "Officer Kenneth S.
Wrede Memorial Highway."
