A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE CITY'S PERSONNEL
RULES GRANTING FULLY -PAID LEAVE OF ABSENCE AND THE
CONTINUATION OF EMPLOYEE BENEFITS TO THOSE SERVING AS
VOLUNTEERS WITH THE AMERICAN RED CROSS DURING RELIEF
WORK ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE KATRINA
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross and the California State Office of Emergency
Services has requested municipalities and the general public to volunteer to serve as Disaster
Relief Workers, subject to training by the American Red Cross as a Shelter and Care Worker, for
the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross is requesting that volunteers commit to serving a
minimum of 9 days and a maximum of 21 days; and
WHEREAS, this volunteer opportunity and first-hand training for City staff is beneficial
to the emergency preparedness of the City of West Covina; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of West Covina wishes to express its support in
the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina does hereby resolve as
follows:
SECTION l: That the City Council hereby approves the continuation of salary and
benefits for employees and their dependents to serve as volunteer relief workers with the American
Red Cross, subject to approval by their individual department and final approval by the City
Manager.
SECTION 2: That the City Clerk shall attest to the passage of this resolution and it shall
thereupon be in full force and effect.
