RESOLUTION NO. 9609
A RESOLTUION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING THE
PROPOSED REFUNDABLE TAX CREDIT OR REBATE
RELATING TO THE VEHICLE LICENSE FEE.
WHEREAS, the Vehicle License 'Fee provides a major source of discretionary funding to
California cities and counties; and
WHEREAS, those discretionary funds are used primarily to support police and fire services; and
WHEREAS, California cities are still recovering from the loss of local property tax revenues that
were taken away from cities by the state during the 1990's; and
WHEREAS, the City of West Covina supports legislative efforts to provide taxpayer relief
without impacting local government funding; and
WHEREAS, the proposed refundable tax credit or refund relating to the vehicle license fee gives
taxpayers relief from the vehicle license fee without disturbing the discretionary funding cities
receive from the fee.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. The City Council has reviewed the proposed state income tax credit
relating to the Vehicle License Fee and is in support of such a proposal, which will allow
taxpayers to receive tax relief without impacting an important source of local funds.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
