RESOLUTION NO. 9524
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACTS
AND DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON DECEMBER 9, 1997
WHEREAS, a Special Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of West
Covina, California, on Tuesday, December 9, 1997 as required by law; and
WHEREAS, notice of the election was given in time, form and manner as provided by law;
voting precincts were properly established; election officers were appointed;
and the election was held and conducted. Votes were cast, received and
canvassed and the returns made and declared in time, form and manner as
required by the provision of the Election Code of the State'of California for the
holding of elections in general law cities; and
WHEREAS, the City Clerk canvassed the returns of the election and has certified the results
to the City Council, the results are received, attached and made a part hereof as
"EXHIBIT A."
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA DOES RESOLVE AND DECLARE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. That the whole number of ballots cast in the City except absent voter ballots
was 4827. That the whole number of absent voter ballots cast in the City was
2,447 making a total of 7,274 ballots cast in the City.
Section 2. That the measure voted upon at the election was:
Shall the ordinance directing the City
Council to eliminate the West Covina
Fire Department and to transfer City
fire and emergency medical services
to Los Angeles County be adopted?
Yes
No
Section 3. That the number of votes given at each precinct and the number of votes given
in favor of and in opposition to the ballot measure are listed in EXHIBIT A
attached.
Section 4. That as a result of the election, a majority of the voters voting on Measure B
relating to the transfer of fire services to the County of Los Angeles voted in
opposition to the measure, causing the measure to fail.
Section 5. The City Clerk shall enter in the records of the City Council of the City a state-
ment of the election results showing: (1) the whole number of ballots cast in the
City, (2) the measure voted upon, and (3) the number of votes given at each
precinct for and against the measure.
Section 6. The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this resolution and
enter it into the book of original resolutions.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED ON DECEMBER 16, 1997.
