A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY,OF WEST COVINA,
CALIFORNIA, SUPPORTING AN INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY VENTURE
CENTER TO BE ADMINISTERED BY CALIFORNIA POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY
- POMONA.
• WHEREAS, California has a need to restructure the overall
economy of the state and an International Technology Venture Center
(ITVC) offers unique possibilities to develop and grow technology
based businesses in the Greater Los Angeles area; and
WHEREAS, an ITVC administered by California Polytechnic
University - Pomona, affords existing and start-up businesses
opportunities to draw upon the educational and business community;
and ,
WHEREAS, Hughes Aircraft and other companies located in
Southern California have committed to the concept and project; and
WHEREAS, a project of this type has the best potential to
succeed on a regional, joint -venture approach to restructuring
defense, aerospace, and start-up businesses in the Greater Los
Angeles area; and
WHEREAS, a regional economic recovery will be augmented by new
technological businesses based in a regional, full -service center
designed to encourage and promote business innovation;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina,
California, does resolve as follows:
Section 1. That the City Council hereby encourages the
Department of Defense, Advanced Research Project Agency to. fund and
support the International Technology Venture Center (ITVC) to be
located near the Cal Poly Campus as a significant step towards the
economic revitalization of the defense/aerospace industry and
California.
Section 2. That a copy of this resolution expressing the City
Council's support shall be forwarded to the following federal
officials:
1. Director Denman, Advanced Research Project Agency/
Technical Reinvestment Project, 3701 N. Fairfax Drive, Arlington,
Virginia, 22203;
2. Senator Dianne Feinstein, Hart Senate Office Building,
Washington, DC, 20510-0504;
3. Senator Barbara Boxer, Hart Senate Office Building,
Washington, DC, 20510-0505;
4. Congressman David Dreier, 411 Cannon Building, Washington,
DC, 20515.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
adoption by the City Council, and the City Clerk shall certify the
• vote adopting this resolution.
