A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE
CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CLASS OF ELECTRI-
CIAN I AND AMENDING THE CLASS SPECIFICATIONS
FOR THE POSITION OF CITY ELECTRICIAN.
0 The City Council of the City of West Covina does resolve
as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to the recommendation of the Personnel
Board:
(a) The class specifications for the class of Electrician I
at salary range S-6, as attached hereto, marked Exhibit A, and by this
reference incorporated herein, are hereby adopted.
(b.) The class specifications for the class of City Electri-
cian are hereby repealed, and new class specifications for the class
of Electrician II, as attached hereto, marked Exhibit B, and by this
reference incorporated herein, are hereby adopted.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.

ELECTRICIAN I
JOB SUMMARY
This is skilled work in maintenance, -replacement and repair of traf-
fic signal systems and street lighting systems and.a.variety of elec-
trical maintenance and repair work.
Under supervision, this position is responsible for the performance
of skilled electrical tasks in the maintenance of electrical street
lighting systems, traffic signal systems, and a large variety of
electrical equipment and fixtures, including replacement and instal-
lation of new systems and alterations to existing electical facilities.
Supervision may be exercised over skilled and unskilled helpers. As-
signments are usually given orall, but may be in writing and may be
accompanied by sketches or blueprints. Work is performed independ-
ently, with considerable latitude for determining materials and work
methods used, and is subject to inspection during progress and upon
completion.
Representative Duties
Installs and maintains street lighting fixtures and traffic signal
systems; installs and maintains lights and lighting systems in com-
munity and other public buildings, parks, playgrounds and related
facilities; uses mechanical boom truck to make aerial repairs and
replacements to street lights, and other overhead electrical facili-
ties; performs maintenance and repair work on a variety'of electrical
fixtures, appliances, circuits, motors, sound systems and water pump-
ing facilities; trains and supervises skilled and unskilled helpers
when assigned; and performs related work as required..
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school; experience in electrical work at the
journeyman level; or any eqivalent combination of education and ex-
perience that would provide the following:
Knowledges and Abilities
Knowledge of: the standard practices, methods; tools and materials
of the,electrical trade; the occupational hazards and safety precau-
tions of the trade; electrical codes and other applicable standards
and regulations.
Ability to: work from drawings and specifications, and to understand
and carry out oral and written instructions; establish and maintain
effective working relationships with other city employees, departments
and the public.

ELECTRICIAN II
JOB SUMMARY
This is highly skilled and supervisory work in the maintenance, re-
placement and repair of traffic signal systems, street lighting sys-
tems, and a variety of electrical maintenance and repair work.
Under general supervision, this position -is responsible for partici-
pating in and supervising maintenance, construction and repair work
on traffic signal systems and on street lighting systems and related
facilities. Supervision is exercised over journeyman electricians
and skilled workers. Work is preformed independently under estab-
lished policies, procedures and regulations. Work is reviewed for
overall effectiveness by conference and reports.
Representative Duties_
Supervises and participates in the replacement, repair and maintenance
of traffic signal systems, street lights and lighting systems in pub-
lic parks, playgrounds and buildings; directs and participates in the
replacement or installation of street light poles and other overhead
facilities; supervises and participates in a variety of electrical
work on fixtures, equipment, circuits, appliances and related electri-
cal items or systems; supervises and performs maintenance work on
electrical motors used in sewage lift stations, water pumping facili-
ties, and for other utility purposes; and performs related work as
required.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school, supplemented by technical courses in
electrical work;'considerable experience as a journeyman electrician,
including some supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination
of education and experience that would provide the following:
Knowledges and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of: the standard practices, materials and
tools of the electrical trade; the occupational hazards and safety
precautions of the trade; electrical codes and other applicable
standards and regulations.
Ability to:; lay out, assign and review the work of journeyman elec-
tricians and helpers;.make estimates of time and materials for elec-
trical work; work from blueprints and specifications; establish and
maintain effective working relationships with other city departments,
employeesand with the public.
Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment of the trade and
in the,maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment.
