A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE
CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE CLASS OF COMMUNI-
TY SERVICES OFFICER.
The City Council of the City of West Covina does resolve
as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to the recommendation of the Personnel
Board:
The class specification for the class of Community Services
Officer at salary range G-6, as attached hereto and by this reference
incorporated herein, is hereby adopted.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution.

COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER
Job Summary
• Community Services Officer is a non -sworn, non -peace officer,.unif.ormed position
in the Police Department. Under general supervision, performs support duties in
several areas related to law enforcement not requiring the services of a sworn
officer. Shift work as aseigned.
Representative Duties
Non -hazardous report writing involving burglaries, thefts, malacious mischief,
and other crimes; interviews witnesses; crime scene fingerprinting and evidence
collection; takes photographs as required; appears in court as required; traffic
control at fires, accidents, defective traffic signals, And other areas as assigned;
writes parking tickets, works parking enforcement; and takes minor traffic accident
reports. Receives, inventories, tags, indexes and disposes of evidence and found
property; receives reports and complaints from public over the telephone and at
counter and prepares necessary reports; compiles and tabulates statistical data;
records and retrieves record data using computer remote terminal; performs related
clerical work as required; may supervise jail and its equipment and supplies; books
and fingerprints prisoners.
Maintains security and legal chain of control of evidence; releases evidence to
court; transports evidence to crime lab for analysis; conducts semi-annual
auctions; maintains inventory of departmental property and supplies; and performs
other work as assigned.
QUALIFICATION GUIDE
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent. College level course work in police science
is desireable. Typing - must be familiar with manual/electric typewriter; experi-
ence in record -keeping preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities
A high degree of general intelligence, verbal facility, memory, and adaptability
are required of all Community Service Officers.
Ability to understand departmental policies, rules, instructions, laws, regulations,
and police literature, together with an aptitude for'law enforcement work; to
write clear and accurate reports;,to use good vocabulary; to understand and follow
oral and written directions; to learn the use and care of automobiles; keen observa-
tion and ability to remember names, faces, and details of incidents.
