RESOLUTION NO. 5475
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA CLARIFYING
CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE.'SIGN
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY.OF WEST COVINA
WHEREAS, the current sign ordinance of the City of West
Covina is unclear as to the allowable sign area for regional
commercial centers; and
WHEREAS, this ambiguity is caused by the failure of the
ordinance to distinguish between regional commercial centers and
local centers; and
WHEREAS, further ambiguity is caused by the failure of
the ordinance to determine clearly whether or not community
reader boards should be included in the allowable sign area for
regional commercial centers; and
WHEREAS, such community reader boards are used for messages
of community wide or center wide interest rather than for specific
products or services available in regional commercial centers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in accordance with
Section 10301 of the West Covina Municipal Code, the City Council
does hereby interpret the sign ordinance of the City of West Covina
as follows:
"In the case of regional commercial centers (i.e.,
centers in the Regional -Commercial zone having over
700,000 sq. ft. of floor area), community reader
• boards of a maximum area of 150 sq. ft. per face
should not be included as part of the allowable
sign area for shopping centers. Messages on
community reader boards erected in regional
commercial centers shall be limited to matters
of community wide or center wide interest."
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk shall certify
to the adoption of this resolution.
