Resolution - 5260RESOLUTION NO. 5260 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, COMMENDING THE CAL POLY POMONA 1976 BASEBALL TEAM. WHEREAS, the 1976 CAL POLY POMONA BASEBALL TEAM participated ® in and won the NCAA Division II National Baseball Championship on June 10, 1976, defeating Southern Illinois University 17-3; and WHEREAS, the CAL POLY TEAM won the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship en route to the NCAA playoffs; and WHEREAS, their splendid teamwork, attitude, and athletic ability led them to an overall season record of 40-27-1; and WHEREAS, throughout the course of the season, the members of the CAL POLY POMONA BASEBALL TEAM performed in a fashion consistent with the doctrines of sports- manship and athletic competition; and WHEREAS, this group of fine young men, under pressure, tension and physical discipline performed in such an admirable manner that four players were selected as All American; and WHEREAS, achieving the goal of a baseball championship teaches the necessity of cooperation, initiative, team spirit,' dedication, and many other qualities required of a good citizen. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, hereby commends the members of the CAL POLY POMONA BASEBALL TEAM; their Coaches, John Scolinos and Gary Marks; and their supporters for their successful year and expresses its heartiest congratulations and best wishes to them in all their future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
