RESOLUTION NO. 5000
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF WEST COVINA REQUESTING LAW
ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION
(LEAA) FUNDING FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
THREE NYPUM PROJECTS.
WHEREAS, the City Council, Human Relations Commission,
and City staff have been studying the question of problem -prone youth
in the community for a period of many months, and
WHEREAS, it has been concluded that there is a need for a
formal program to involve the youth of the community in counseling
and constructive activities, and
WHEREAS the National Youth Project Using Minibikes
(NYPUM) has been re -funded for its fourth year of operation in an amount
sufficient to develop 80 new NYPUM units in the United States, and
WHEREAS, Casa Maravilla has proven successful in admin-
istration of NYPUM programs;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Council
requests'funding of three NYPUM programs to be operated in the City of
West Covina by Casa Maravilla; and
FINALLY BE IT RESOLVED, that the'. City. Clerk be instructed
to transmit a copy of this resolution in support of staff actions to obtain
approval of the NYPUM funding subvention to Ron Weber, Executive
Director of the Los Angeles Regional Criminal Justice Planning Board.
