A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST COVINA EXPRESSING ITS APPRECIATION
FOR THE SERVICES OF NEWTON H. TEMPLIN AND
• EXPRESSING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY ON HIS
UNTIMELY PASSING
WHEREAS, Newton H. Templin was a native son of the
State of California, born in Los Angeles on June 9, 1904; and
WHEREAS, he attended California Institute of Technol-
ogy and received a Bachelor"of Science degree in Engineering;
and
WHEREAS, he joined the office of the Los Angeles County
Road Department in 1925, serving the Department in many and var-
ious posts, and.was appointed Los Angeles County -Road Commissioner
in 1961; and
WHEREAS, as such he directed the operations of this out-
standing governmental agency; and
WHEREAS, he was instrumental in organizing and develop-
ing the operational procedures of the Department to its present
efficiency and effectiveness; and
WHEREAS, his devotion of time and attention to his
duties won for him the affection and high regard of his govern-
ment employees; and
WHEREAS, his fine spirit of cooperation with other
departments of the County as well as with the cities within the
County led to public support of the Department and earned for
him the highest esteem and confidence of all; and
WHEREAS, he has been President of the Metropolitan
Transportation Engineering Board, President of the local chapter
of American Public Works Association, and Chairman of the High-
way Supervisors Committee for the Los Angeles County Supervisors
Association; and
WHEREAS, in May, 1966, he suddenly became seriously
ill and as a result unfortunately passed away;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA DOES HEREBY RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. That the City Council, on behalf of all
the city employees and citizens of this city, hereby expresses
its appreciation for the fine services Newton H. Templin has
rendered to this community, and conveys its deep and abiding
sympathy to his family in their great loss of a fine husband and
father.
