RESOLUTION NO. 2708
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST COVINA DEDICATING FIRE STATION NO..3 TO
THE MEMORY OF RALPH E. HARDIN
WHEREAS, the City of West Covina'assumed operation of
the City of West Covina fire protection services from Los Angeles
County in 1950; and
WHEREAS, Ralph Edward Hardin was retained by the City of
West Covina on,a part time -basis in August, 1951, to.establish and
implement the .training program for the first regular and volunteer
firemen of the City of'West Covina, to recommend the type of
equipment required, and provide,for the future expansion of the
department in order to keep pace with the city's rapid growth;
and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief Ralph Edward Hardin, through his
contribution of skill and knowledge acquired through his years
of experience in fire'protection, developed the department along
the most modern methods and techniques of fire fighting; and
WHEREAS,'the City.Council of the City of West Covina
requested that he be placed on a full time basis in order to
effectively handle the management of the department which at
that time had grown from one station, four regular men.and
twelve volunteers, to two fire stations with thirty-four men
under the platoon system; and
WHEREAS, Fire Chief'Hardin retired .from active duty in
1958; and
WHEREAS, in 1961 he became seriously ill and unfor-
tunately passed away;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of West Covina, in recognition of his invaluable
contribution of understanding, ability' and character to the men
of the Fire Department, and to the future development of the
West Covina fire protection service, does hereby dedicate to
the memory of Fire Chief Ralph Edward Hardin this city's modern
new fire protection facility, Fire Station No. 3.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk shall certify
to the adoption of this resolution.

regular meeting -thereof held on the 22nd day of July, 1963,.by
