Ordinance - 2122ORDINANCE NO. 2122 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, MOVING THE DATE OF THE CITY'S GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION FROM THE FIRST TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN MARCH OF THE ODD -NUMBERED _ YEARS TO THE FIRST TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN NOVEMBER THE ODD -NUMBERED YEARS WHEREAS, the City's General Municipal Election is now scheduled for the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each of the odd -numbered years; and WHEREAS, California Elections Code § 1301 and § 10400 authorizes the City to reschedule its General Municipal Election, NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION NO. 1: Pursuant to California Elections Code § 1301 and § 10400, the date of the General Municipal Election of the City of West Covina, California, is moved from the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each of the odd -numbered years, to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each of the odd -numbered years. SECTION NO. 2: In accordance with the change of election date, the terms of office of those members of the City Council and City Treasurer and City Clerk presently serving shall be extended for a period of approximately eight months until election results are certified by the City Council. SECTION NO. 3: Pursuant to Government Code § 36937, this ordinance shall take effect immediately after its adoption. Within thirty (30) days of the effective date, the City Clerk shall cause a notice to be mailed to all registered voters of the City informing them of the change in the election date. SECTION NO. 4: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this ordinance and shall cause the same to be published in accordance with the law.
