AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA, CALIFORNIA, AUTHORIZING AN AMENDMENT TO THE
CONTRACT BETWEEN THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA, CALIFORNIA, AND THE BOARD OF ADMINISTRATION OF
THE CALIFORNIA PUBLIC EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT SYSTEM, AND
DECLARING THE URGENCY THEREOF AND PROVIDING THAT THIS
ORDINANCE SHALL TAKE EFFECT IMMEDIATELY.
The City Council of the City of West Covina does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. That an amendment to the Contract between the City
Council of the City of West Covina and the Board of Administration,
California Public Employees' Retirement System is hereby authorized, a copy
of said amendment being attached hereto, marked "Exhibit All, and by such
reference made a part hereof as though herein set out in full.
SECTION 2. The Mayor of the City of West Covina is hereby
authorized, empowered, and directed to execute said amendment for and on
behalf of said Agency.
SECTION 3. The facts giving rise to the urgency hereof are as
follows:
The amendment will provide credit for Unused Sick Leave, Increased
Level of 1959 Survivor Benefits, and the $600 Retired Death Benefit. The
City agreed to continue the provision of these benefits to members of the
United Professional Firefighters Local #2415, IAFF, AFL-CIO, CLC. Since the
Public Employees' Retirement System requires thirty (30) days to process the
amendment and retirements are anticipated during the first quarter of 1989,
it is necessary for the ordinance to take effect immediately. This urgency
ordinance will preclude any adverse impact to Fire employees' Retirement
System benefits.
SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately after the
date of its adoption, and prior to the expiration of 15 days from the passage
thereof shall be published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, a newspaper of
general circulation, published and circulated in the City of West Covina.
