AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
WEST COVINA ESTABLISHING LIMITATIONS ON TERMS
OF OFFICE FOR CITY COMMISSIONERS.
WHEREAS, the West Covina City Council has determined that it is in the interest
of the City to diversify the representations on City Commissions
within the community, and
• WHEREAS, Government Code Section 36506 entitles the City Council to fix the
term of office for all appointive officers and employees, including
City Commissioners.
NOW THEREFORE THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. Section 2-66 is added to the West Covina Municipal Code
to read as follows:
Section 2-66 Limitation on Terms of Office
Persons appointed to the Commissions established by this Article serve
at the pleasure of the City Council. The City Council may not appoint
a person to serve more than three consecutive full terms on any single
Commission or any combination of Commissions. Persons completing a
third consecutive term may be eligible for subsequent appointment to
a Commission only upon completion of a two year period of time. The
provisions of this section shall apply to all persons currently
serving on City Commissions, or who may subsequently be appointed to
City Commissions, provided that persons having served more than three
consecutive terms of office on July 1, 1988, shall be permitted to
complete their current term of office, at the pleasure of the City
Council.
SECTION 2. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall certify to
the passage and adoption of this Ordinance and shall cause the same to be
published in the manner prescribed by law.
