AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA
AMENDING THE WEST COVINA MUNICIPAL CODE, CHAPTER 26,
ARTICLE VII, BY ADDING SECTIONS 26-323.5, 26-326.5 AND
26-368.5, RELATING TO SIGNS IN THE NONRESIDENTIAL AND
MULTIPLE -FAMILY ZONES (Amendment No. 195)
• The City Council of the City of West Covina, California
does ordain as follows:
SECTION NO. 1: Chapter 26, Article VII, Division 2 of the
West Covina Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding Section
2.6-323.5 to read as follows:
Section 26-323.5 Signs On Cloth Canopies Or Awnings
a. Identifying signs on cloth canopies and awnings or canopies and
awnings made of similar nonrigid material will be allowed.
b. Signs as described in subparagraph (a)\'may be painted or silk
screened directly on the surface or nonrigid letters or symbols
may be attached to the surface of the cloth canopys or awnings.
C. The square footage of each cloth canopy or awning sign shall be
counted and shall be subtracted from the total allowable signage
of the wall on which the awning or canopy is mounted or serves.
d. Signs permits are required as specified in section 7-134 of the
Municipal Code.
SECTION NO. 2: Chapter 26, Article VII, Division 2 of the
West Covina Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding Section
26-326.5 to read as follows:
Section 26-326.5 Office Building Detached Signs
(not in 0-P, P-B, 0-S and I-P zones)
a. Single or double faced detached identifying signs may be allowed
for each wall of the building that faces a property line that
separates the site from a street, prgviding that the building is
on its own separate site and is not allowed signs for tenants
under the provisions of Section 26-322, 26-322.5, and 26-323.
b. Such signs must have the explicit approval as to necessity,
design, size, location and number of signs of either the
Planning Director, Planning Commission or City Council.
C. Detached ground signs shall be of the same architecural style as
the building, shall not exceed thrity-two (32) square feet per
face, shall be no wider than eight (8) feet and no higher than
six (6) feet from ground level and placed within a lawn or
landscaped area of no less than twenty-four (24) square feet
surrounded by a concrete or comparable curb surrounded by a
concrete or comparable curb of no less than six (6) inches.
d. Office buildings utilizing detached signs shall not be permitted
wall signs except building identification signs as provided in
Section 26-332
e. Sign permits are required as specified in Section 7-134 of the
Municipal Code.
SECTION NO Chapter
. 3: C apte 26, Article VII, Division 4 of the
West Covina Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding Section
26-368.5 to read as follows:
Section 26-368.5 Detached Identifying Sign
(MF-8, MF-15, MF-20 and MF-45 zones)
a. In lieu of signs allowed in section 26-368, one single face
identifying sign attached to a peripheral wall or one detached
single or double faced identifying sign may be allowed for each
property line that separates the site from a street.
b. Such signs must have the explicit approval as to necessity,
design, size, location and number of signs of either the
• Planning Director, Planning Commission, or the City Council.
C. Such signs shall not exceed 32 square feet per face.
d. Detached ground signs shall be of the same architecural style as
the building, no wider than eight (8) feet and no higher than
six (6) feet from ground level and placed within a lawn or
landscaped area of no less than twenty-four (24) square feet
surrounded by a concrete or comparable curb of no less than six
(6) inches.
e. Sign permits are required as specified in Section 7-134 of the
Municipal Code.
SECTION NO. 4: The City Council finds and determines
