AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING THE
WEST COVINA MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING SECTION
26-322.5 TO CHAPTER 26, ARTICLE VII, RELATING
TO SIGNS ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF TWO-STORY
BUILDINGS IN NON-RESIDENTIAL ZONES
(Amendment No. 173)
' -The City Council of the City of West Covina does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1: Section 26-322.5 i.s hereby added to the West Covina
Municipal Code and will read as follows:
Sec. 26-322.5 - Second -story identification signs
a. On the second floor. of a two-story building, 12
square feet of identification sign, up to a maximum of
60.square 'feet, will be allowed to each store, office
or similar area, on only one wall of the building facing
either a street or a shopping center parking lot, for
every lineal foot of that wall that encloses the store,
office or similar area, regardless of the fact that it
has or has not its own exterior entrance, providing that
first -floor signage is allowed by Section 26-322.
b. Allowable signage shall be individual letters no higher
than 18 inches and shall be either non -illuminated or
illuminated .internally .
C. This Section does not apply to buildings of more than two
stories.
• d. This Section does not apply to "office buildings" housing
stores, offices or similar enclosed areas having common
exterior entrances on the first floor.

e. A sign permit is required, as specified in Section 7-134 of
the Municipal Code.
f. The signs shall be compatible and coordinated with the
balance of the signs for the shopping center and the
commercial buildings as to colors and style subject to
the approval of the approval of the Planning Director.
SECTION 2: The City Council finds and determines that said amendment
to the Municipal Code is a minor modification to the City's Zoning
Ordinance and is, therefore, categorically exempt (Class 5) from the
requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act of 1970 (CEQA).
SECTION 3: The City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this ordinance
and shall cause the same to be published as required by law.
