ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 142
ENTITLED " AN ORD4NANCE OF THE CITY OF
"141EST COVINA PROVIDING FOR THE - LICENSING
OF i'PHOLESALE AND RETAIL BUSINESS, TRADES
AND OCCUPATIONS CARRIED ON IN SAID CITY,
AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH " BY ADDING THERETO A NEW SEC-
TION TO BE NUMBERED SECTION 31.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA DOES ORDAIN AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTIONN 1. Ordinance No. 142, entitled "AN ORDINANCE OF
TIM, CITY OF WEST COVINA PROVIDING FOR THE LICENSING OF '�IHOLE-
SALE AND RETAIL BUSINESS, TRADES AND OCCUPATIONS CARRIED ON
IN SAID CITY AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HERE-
WITH" is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Section to be
numbered Section 31.
SECTION 31. (a) Subsection (f) of Section 7 of Ordinance
No. 142 is hereby amended to read:
Any application for a yearly license, where it is not pro-
vided that a yearly license fee be paid for each year or any
fraction thereof, shall be accompanied by such proportion of
the yearly license fee as the remaining months of the fiscal year
(including the calendar month in which the application is made)
bear to twelve (12); however, in no event shall a license be
Granted for a period less than six (6) months. Where it is
provided herein that a yearly license fee shall be paid for each
year or fraction thereof, any application for such a yearly
license shall be accompanied by the yearly license fee, except
that when the remaining months of the fiscal year (including
-. the calendar month in which the application is made) shall not
exceed six (6) months, then the license may be granted for a
six (6) months' period, and the application need be accompanied
by only one-half Q) of the yearly license fee as herein pro-
vided.
(b) Subsection (19) of Section 28 of Ordi-
nance No. 142 is hereby amended to read:
BROKERS, REAL ESTATE: For every person engaging in the
business of a real estate broker, the sum of $24.00 per annum,
plus the sum of $12.00 per annum for each salesman other than
the broker proprietor.
(c) Subsection (30) /a/ of Section 28 of
Ordinance No. 142 is hereby amended to read:
CONTRACTORS, GENERAL:
General Contractors: For every person engaging in the
business of a general engineering contractor or general building
contractor, the sum of $48.00 per annum, or fraction thereof.
A general engineering contractor is a contractor whose
principal contracting business is in connection with fixed
works for any or all of the following divisions or subjects:
irrigation, draining water, power, water supply, flood control,
inland waterways, harbors, railroads, highways, tunnels, air-
. ports, and airways, sewerage and bridges.
A general building contractor is a contractor whose prin-
cipal contracting business is in connection with any structure or
building being built or to be built for the support, shelter
and enclosure of persons, animals, chattels, or movable prop-
erty of any kind, requiring the use of more than two unrelated
building trades or crafts, or to do or superintend the whole or
any part thereof.
(d) Subsection (30) /b/ of Section 28 of
Ordinance No. 142 is hereby amended to read:
Specialty Contractors: For every person engaged in the
business of a specialty contractor the sum of $36.00 per annum
or fraction thereof.
(e) Subsection (32) of Section 28 of Ordinance
No. 142 is hereby amended to read:
ELECTRICAL FIXTURES AND SUPPLIES: For every person engaged
in the business of an electrical contractor the sum of $36.00
per annum or fraction thereof.
(f ) Subsection (52 ) of Section 28 of Ordinance
No. 142 i*6mended 'to read:
• PLUMBERS: For every person engaged as a plumbing contrac-
tor the sum of $36.00 per annum or fraction thereof.
(g) The City Clerk of the City of Nest Covina
shall cause this Ordinance to be published once within fifteen
days after its passage in the West Covina Tribune, a newspaper
of general circulation published and circulated in the said City.
First read at the regular meeting of the City Council of
said City on the 26th day of May,' 1948, and finally adopbd and
ordered published at the regular meeting of said Council held on
the ` day of , 1948, by the following vote:
