AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA TO PREVENT
THE BUILDING OF ANY OPEN FIRES FOR BURNING TRASH,
RUBBISH AND COMBUSTIBLE MtA.TERIALS AFTER 11:30 A.M.
U117'THOUT SECURING A PERMIT.
The City Council of the City of West Covina does ordain
as follows:
Section=..I:It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation, to build, light, maintain or cause to be built, or to
light, or maintain any open or outdoor fire or to burn any rubbish,
paper, shavings, boxes, grass, brush or other combustible materials
on any city street, resident lot, alley, sidewalk or parkway in: the
City of West Covina, except between the hours of sunup and 11:30 A.-M.
without first securing a permit therefor from the Chief of Police'of
said City; provided that nothing herein contained shall prevent any
such person from burning any such trash, rubbish or other combustible
_materials in a properly constructed incinerator built for such purpose
at any hour during the day between sunrise and sunset, but not after
sunset, provided further that nothing herein contained shall apply to
farmers and ranchers in the burning of the branches from the pruning
of their orchards and trees and clearing up land located more than 50
feet from any building, structure or residential property.
Section 2: That any person, firm or corporation -violating
any of the provisions of this Ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof shall be punishable by a fine
of -not less than ten dollars ( 10.00) nor more than three hundred
dollars ($300.00), or by imprisonment for a period of not less than
two (2) days nor more than three (3) months, or by both such fine and
imprisonment. B ach s!jA person, firm or corporation `shall be deemed
guilty of a speartte offense for each day during any portion of which
any violation of, -any provision of this Ordinance is committed, con-
tinued or permitted by such person, firm or corporation, and shall be
punishable therefor.as provided by this Ordinance.
Section 3: The City Clerk of the City of West Covina shall
certify to the passage of this Ordinance and cause the same to be posted
• in three public places in said City.

the City Clerk of the City of West Covina, and is a citizen of the
United States and over the age of twenty-one years; that on the
/ "4day of January, 1943, he posted three copies of the Ordinance
No. 99 of the City of UlTest Covina, entitled "An Ordinance of the
City of West; Covina To Prevent the Building of any Open Fires for
Burning Trash, Rubbish and Combustible Materials after 11:30 A.M.
without Securing a Permit", in three public places in said City
.to wit: one at 361 West State Highway, West Covina, the same being
the place where the regular meetings of the City Council of said
City are held, one on Sunset Avenue in front of the West Covina
School House, and one at the Northwest corner of Puente Street and
Lark Ellen Blvd.
