AN ORDIfTANCE .OF THE CITY OF WEST COVIitA
r F.GLTLATING THE KF,EPiNG -O F DOGS AND DOG
K LMLS IN THE CITY OF WEST COVINAI,
The City Council of the City of West Covina do ordain as
follows:
Section_ 1. That it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to keep more.than three (3) canine animals over six (6)
months of age, in any place in the said City of Uest Covina within two
hundred (200) feet of any dwelling -house in use or occupied by human
beings other than a dwelling -house belonging, to the owner of such dogs.
Section 2. That it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to carry on the business in said City of"Vlest Covina of keep-
ing -dogs for breeding purposes, or for -the purpose of medical t-l-eatment
of such dogs, . or of caring for dogs for hire; without first obtaining a
permit rroi:_ the City Council of the City of unrest Covina so. to • do, and
said City Council shall have the right to grant or refuse such permit ill
its discretion provided that if said City Council shall grant such permit,
said City Council may prescribe such conditions as it may deem necessary
or advisable to prevent such business becoming a nuisance.
Section 3. That it shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to keep or cause to be kept four (4) or more canine
animals over six (6) months of age in said City of West Covina at any
place or on any premises in said City of West Covina and over two
hun dyed feet, (200) from any dwelling -house in use or occupied by human
beings other than the owner of such dogs, without first obtaining a
permit from said City Council so to do, and said City Council may grant
or refuse such permit in its discretion provided that if such permit
is granted said City Council may prescribe such conditions as may be
advisable or necessary to prevent the keeping of any or all such dogs
from bacodr_ng a nuisance.
Section 4: That any person, firm or corporation violating any of
the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemean-
or and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine not ex-
ceeding*Three Hundred (4300.00) Dollars, or by imprisonment in the
city jail or in the county jail of the County of Los Angeles, State
of California, for a period not exceeding three (3) months, or by both
such fine and imprisonment.
Section 5: This ordinance prior to -the expiration of fifteen
days from the pas -age hereof shall be posted in three (3) public
places in the City of 7,1est Covina, together with the names of the.
members of the City Council voting for ana against the same.

California, do hereby certify that at a regular meeting of the City
Council of ;West Covina, held on the 13th day of May, 1942, at which
meeting there were present, D. H. Robinson, Charles P. Kendall, Clyde
Batchelder, Cdalter S. Herring and Carl Mossberg, the foregoing ordinance
consisting of five sections was considered section by section, and
that the said ordinance was then passed and adopted as a whole by
the following vote, to -wit:
