The special meeting of the City Council, Community Services Commission, and the Planning
Commission was called to order by Mayor Pro Tern Touhey at 5:12 pm in the City Hall Basement
Entrance Parking Lot, 1444 W. Garvey Avenue, West Covina.
ROLL CALL City Council:
Mayor Wong (arrived at the second community center), Mayor Pro
Tem Touhey (left at the conclusion of the second community
center), Councilmember Miller, Councilmember Herfert (left at the
conclusion of the second community center), Councilmember
Sanderson (left at the conclusion of the second community center)
CommunityServices Commission:
Carrico, McIntosh, F. Michaud, M. Michaud, Sotelo, Vargas
Absent: Roe, Mart, Puchalski, Valles
Planning Commission:
Scheuplein
Absent: York, Lane, Tarozzi, Warshaw
Others Present: Personnel Commissioners: Nance, Valesquez
Staff. Alvarez-Glasman, Chung (left at the conclusion of the
second community center), Hatch, Bommarito, Orta, Sandhagen,
Smilowitz, Stephens, Yuasa, Mclsaac, Williams, Morgan,
Reynosa, Berry
PUBLIC COMMENT Jefferson De Roux, 803 S. Lark Ellen, asked several questions
regarding the funding source for the proposed construction of a
community center or gymnasium. Mayor Pro Tern Touhey and
Community Services Director Hatch responded.
Community Services Director Hatch distributed infor-
mation to the participants, asking for their likes and dislikes to be
recorded on the return sheet. The comments will be consolidated
onto a tally sheet and used to help design an ideal community
center/gym for West Covina.
BUS TOUR OF THREE COMMUNITY CENTERS/GYMS
Stop No. 1 5:45 pm Baldwin Park Community Center
4100 Baldwin Park Boulevard, Baldwin Park
The tour of this community center ended with a boxed
dinner and soda at 6:30 pm.
Stop No. 2 7:15 pm Santa Fe Springs Center
11155 Charles Worth Road, Santa Fe Springs

The bus returned to the West Covina City Hall parking lot at 9 pm
and Community Services Director Hatch gathered the comment
sheets from the participants and thanked them for attending the
tour.
