SPECIAL MEETING
WEST COVINA CITY COUNCIL
January 4, 1994
The special meeting of the West Covina City Council was called to order
at 6:11 pm by Mayor Jennings in the City Hall Council Chambers, 1444 W.
Garvey Avenue, West Covina.
ROLL CALL Mayor Jennings, Mayor Pro Tem Wong, Council -
members Herfert, Manners, McFadden
Others Present: Starbird, Wylie, Hanna, Collier, Samaniego.
Greene, Ure, Thomas, Glover, Holler, Distelrath,
Barrett, Rossman, Urban, Panis, Myrick, Harden,
Salazar, Gardner, Crawford, Bonaparte, Pullen,
Dowdey, Berry
OATH OF OFFICE FOR CHIEF OF POLICE JOHN DISTELRATH
Prior to the swearing -in ceremony City Manager
Starbird related the rigorous selection process
for Chief of Police, and the difficulty in
selecting just one of the highly qualified
candidates from whom he had to choose.
City Clerk Berry administered the Oath of Office
to John Distelrath, newly appointed Chief of
Police of West Covina.
City Manager Starbird presented Chief Distelrath
with a police identification card and the Badge
of Police Chief.
Chief Distelrath introduced his family members
and past police chiefs whose guidance and
support he has appreciated throughout the years.
He also acknowledged several Police Chiefs in
attendance. He noted that he was looking
forward to carrying on the high standards set by
his predecessors and to serving the community of
West Covina.
Congratulatory remarks were given by Council,
noting their full support of the appointment.
Mayor Jennings announced a reception immediately
following the ceremony would be held upstairs in
the Management Resource Center. He invited the
audience to attend and take advantage of the
opportunity to congratulate the new chief in
person. Mayor Jennings noted that the regular
meeting would convene at 7:30 pm as scheduled.
ADJOURNMENT Motion by Herfert and seconded by McFadden to
adjourn the meeting at 6:35 pm. Motion carried
5-0.
