MEETING OF MAY 19, 1948.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor King at,8:00 o'clock P.M.
Present: Mayor King, Vouncilmen, De Lay,Hurst,Mossberg and Van Horn.
Absent: None
Also Presenr: City Engineer Ells, City Treasurer, Mrs. Sayers and
J.C. Nichols.
The minutes of the meeting of May 12, 1948, were read and approved.
Wednesday, May.19, 1948, at.the hour of 8:00 P.M. was the date and
time fixed for any.and all having any objections- to the granting
of a franchise.to.the Southern California Edison Company to
appear, and it'being this date and time the -.City Clerk notified
the City.Council that he had received no written protests and
there were no person present to file written protests.
An ordinance granting a franchise to the Southern California Edison
Company is now in order, but after some discussion it was moved
by Councilman Hurst, seconded by Councilman Van Horn and carried,
the reading of said ordinance was postponed until the next regular
meeting of May 26, 1948.
Councilman DeLay reported on his investigation of the problem of Street
lights in the City of West Covina, and .it was decided to refer the
matter to the Planning Commission.
Mr. & Mrs. Cobino were present and inquired about the status of their
property on the South side of Garvey just west of Sunset Avenue,
and were instructed to file a request for a vaiance.
Mr. Victor Anderson was present and inquired as to the progress being
made in the business district planning.
Garbage disposal was discussed and the City Attorney was instructed
to draw an ordinance covering same.
Resolution No. 134, entitled a resolution requiring property owners
of vacant land to burn weeds, and requiring the Street Supt.
• to post notices as required by Ordinance No. 144.
Upon motion by Councilman Hurst, seconded by Councilman Van Horn, and
carried the license fees for real estate brokers and salesmen
wEre axdwwx set at $24.00 and $12.00 respectively.
Ordinance No. 155, AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 87 4-NTITLED"AN
ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA? COUNTY OF LOS ANGELES,?
STATE OF CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING A BUILDING CODE TO REGULATE THEE
CONSTRUCTION, ERECTION, ENLARGEMENT,.RAZIND, ALTERATION,
REAPIRING, REMOVAL, MAINTENANCE,, MOVING, USE AND HEIGHTOF
BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES IN THE SAID CITY OF WEST COVINAtIBY
ADDING THERETO A NEW SECTION TO BE NUMBERED SECTION 11, was
read for the first timer on motion by Councilman Hurst,sec-
onded by councilman DeLay said ordinance was adopted unanimously.

The Clerk read a petition xxx xx from the Motel owners of the
City of West Covina, asking that the license fees for motels
be reduced, and on motion by'councilman Van Horn, seconded by
councilman Hurst, the petition was ordered filed.
Resolution No. 135, a resolution accepting a quit claim deed to
certain portions of Lot 6, R.W. Rowland Tract, and more par-
ticularly described in said quit claim deed, from Williamson
and Gilmore.
Upon motion duly made, seconded and carried the meeting adjourned
at 11:00 P.M.
