Minutes of tthe regular meeting
of the :Test Covina City Council
held November 15,1944
Meeting called to order at 7.45 by Mayor .Batchelder.
All —councilmen were present also City Clerk Hall and
City Treasurer Sayers, City Attorney Smith was absent.
Out.siderspresent:. E.G.Hotchkiss ,
Letter read from Ralph Vanderhoof requesting that his property
on the State Highway be zoned fot business. The disposition of
this request wa's as follows. Councilman Hurst moved that the
request be laid aside until the next zoning meeting and his motion
was seconded by Councilman Daniels. The motion was passed by unanimous
vote.
Councilman Van Horn asked for ideas on the proposed construction of
an addition to the City Hall. He suggested that the South wall be
set out to the edge of the porch in order to make the main room
larger for meetingSetc. A general discus, -ion took place as to the
ways:,and means of making the addition to the City Hall to take care
of living quarters for the Cbief of Police and family.
It was moved by Councilman Daniels that Mayor Batchelder be authbTized
to make a protest against the return of Japanese to the City of Nest
Covina from the concentration camps. Thfus.c.photest- to be voiced at the
Directors meeting of the League of California Cities to be held on
November 16th at Hollywood Race Track at Inglewood,Calif. Councilman
Hurst seconded the motion and.it was passed unanimously.
It was moved by Councilman Daniels that Councilmen Vari Horn and Mossberg
be appointed as a committee of two to draw_tup plans and specifications
covering; the proposed addition to the ,City Hall and thkt bids be
advertised for with the understanding that all or any of the bids
received be subject to rejection. This motion was made by Councilman
Daniels and seconded by Councilman Hurst. It passed by unanimous vote.
There being no futher business the meeting was declared adjourned.
