Those Present were: P.R. Jackson, J.K. Hedges, F.,L. Mowder, C.H. Coffman and L. Reeg. Absent: None: The minutes of the meeting of April 13, 1939, were read and approved. Also the minutes of the special meeting of May 18, 1939, were read and approved. The following bills were presented -by the Clerk and on motion by Councilman Coffman; seconded by Councilman Reeg, duly put and carried, were allowed and ordered paid. Joe Fritsch 100.00. Co. 3.96 Max' s Toe gain afe 2.25 p403.00 Upon motion by Councilman'Mowder, se oc nded by Councilman Hedges, duly put and carried, the Council voted in favor of making arrangements with the.County Forestry Department at San Dimas for.taking care of any*fires�we may have in the City of West. Covina, and Councilmen Browder, Coffman and Jackson were appointed as a committee to .make satisfactory arrangements'with'the County Board of Supervisors with power to complete said arrangements. After some di$sucussion concerning the empolying a police officer to take the place of Orval Davis who resigned, it was moved by Council- man Mowder, seconded by Councilman'Coffman, duly put and carried, it was decided to refer the applicants to Chief of Police Joe Fritsch for investigation and recommendation. The Clerk presented a letter from attorney Charles Chorna, presenting a claim of Otero William Carrillo, as a result of his driving into Walnut Nash during flood times. Said letter was refferred to. City attorney Smith to be answered. Resolution No. 2-5', entitled a resolution entering into a mem8randum agreement with the Deaprtment of Public works, State of alifornia, for the expenditure of k cent gasoline tax upon the State Highways within the City of'West, was offered by Councilman Reeg, seconded by Councilman &powder and was unanimously adopted. There being no further'business to come -before -the Council the meeting was duly adjourned: The foregoing minutes of the mu:eting of the Council of the.City of West Covina of May:ll, 1938, are duly recorded on pages 462-463 of the book of record of said Council.
