DATE: May 3, 2022
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: David Carmany
City Manager
SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF BUDGET AMENDMENT TO FUND CIP PROJECT NO. 21029 -
SENIOR CENTER SLIDING DOOR REPLACEMENT
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council adopt the following resolution:
RESOLUTION NO. 2022-37 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST
COVINA, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING A BUDGET AMENDMENT FOR THE FISCAL YEAR
COMMENCING JULY 1, 2021 AND ENDING JUNE 30, 2022 (FUNDING OF SENIOR CENTER
SLIDING DOOR REPLACEMENT PROJECT)
BACKGROUND:
The Sliding Doors at the Senior Center are in need of replacement and are an approved CIP project staff
has been working towards completing. This project was originally proposed to be funded with
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds; however, the requirements associated with
utilizing this type of funding made the project not viable. When the City advertised the project, the City
received little interest from contractors. The Federal requirements made the project prohibitively
expensive. The City re -advertised the project without the CDBG requirements and received bids from twc
bidders.
DISCUSSION:
As the project was originally intended to be funded by CDBG funds, at this time staff is requesting a
Budget Amendment in the amount of $94,500 to fund the project with funds from the CIP Budget account
160.80.7004.7700.
LEGAL REVIEW:
The City Attorney's Office has reviewed the resolution and approved it as to form.
OPTIONS:
The City Council has the following options:
1. Adopt staff's recommendation.
2. Provide alternative direction.
