FROM: David Carmany
City Manager
SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT OF NEW COMMISSIONER TO THE COMMUNITY AND SENIOR
SERVICES COMMISSION
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council receive and file this informational report.
BACKGROUND:
On June 2, 2015, the City Council adopted an ordinance, which amended sections of the West Covina
Municipal Code related to the appointment, removal, vacancies, and terms of City Commissioners. The
ordinance was effective on July 2, 2015.
DISCUSSION:
The 2015 ordinance restructured the process of appointing City Commissioners. Specifically, the ordinance
allows for the appointment of City Commissioners by individual appointment by each Councilmember, rather
than by majority vote of the City Council. In addition, the ordinance established the term of office for each
commissioner to be consistent with the term of office of the appointing Councilmember. The following
appointment is effective immediately.
Mayor Pro Tern Castellanos is announcing the appointment of the following City Commissioner:
• Community and Senior Services Commission - Sherry Fisher
OPTIONS:
The City Council has the following options:
1. Approve the Commissioner appointment; or
2. Provide alternative direction.
