Resolution - 2008-43RESOLUTION NO.2008-43 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, REDUCING THE SPEED LIMIT ON RESIDENTIAL STREETS ADJACENT TO SCHOOLS WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of West Covina, California, pursuant to Section 22358.4 of the California Vehicle Code, local jurisdictions are allowed to reduce the speed limit on residential streets within 500-feet from a school from 25 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour while children are going to or leaving the school, and WHEREAS, appropriate signs shall be posted to give notice of the speed limit to drivers. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina, California, does hereby resolve as follows: SECTION 1. That the City Council does hereby approve that the speed limits on residential streets adjacent to schools are reduced from 25 miles per hour to 15 miles per hour pursuant to Section 21107.8 of the California Vehicle Code when posted by the City Engineer. SECTION 2. That the City Council authorizes the City Engineer, with the concurrence of the Police Chief, to post appropriate signs upon the street giving notice of the speed. SECTION 3. Upon posting the appropriate signs, the 15 miles per hour speed limit shall become effective and enforceable. SECTION 4. That the City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution.
