Resolution - 8377RESOLUTION NO. 8377 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, APPROVING THE CLASS SPECIFICATION AND SALARY RANGE FOR FIREFIGHTER RECRUIT; AND AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 7223, AS AMENDED, - CLASSIFICATION AND \� COMPENSATION OF POSITIONS. WHEREAS, it has been determined that a Firefighter Recruit class should be established; and WHEREAS, the Personnel Commission has reviewed and recommends approval of the class specification for Firefighter Recruit; and WHEREAS, the Personnel Commission has reviewed and recommends a salary range of $2140 - $2601 for Firefighter Recruit; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina does resolve as follows: SECTION 1. Pursuant to the recommendation of the Personnel Commission of the City of West Covina, the class specification for Firefighter Recruit, attached hereto and marked Exhibit "A" and by this reference incorporated herein, is hereby adopted. SECTION 2. Resolution No. 7223, as amended, relating to classification of positions is hereby amended to include the class specification for Firefighter Recruit. SECTION 3. Resolution No. 7223, as amended, relating to the Basic Salary Schedule is hereby amended to include the salary for Firefighter Recruit Range 477 ($2140 to $2601). SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of July, 1989. An individual will remain in the firefighter recruit classification during pre -academy training and during the actual academy training. Upon successful completion of the training academy and approval of Fire Department Management, the Firefighter Recruit will be eligible for advancement to Firefighter. Representative Duties Attends a basic Fire Science certified academy designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the fire service which includes training in firefighting techniques, prevention, principles of chemistry and physics, first aid, and physical fitness. Education High School graduation or GED certificate. Knowledge and Abilities A high degree of general intelligence, verbal facility, memory and adaptability are required. Must have the ability to understand and carry out departmental policies rules and instructions; to understand and follow written and oral directions under stress and pressure; to work effectively under emergency conditions; to use sound judgment under hazardous circumstances; to work in a team and independently; to maintain cooperative working relations; to deal effectively and courteously with the public; to write simple reports, and maintain physical endurance and agility. Physical Requirements Age: Minimum 18 years old. Weight: In proportion to height. Vision: 20/20 uncorrected desirable; acceptable condition up to 20/70 uncorrected in each eye, correctable to 20130 in each eye. Free from color blindness. Hearing: Normal, uncorrected.
