A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA,
• CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 7223 RELATING TO
CLASSIFICATION AND COMPENSATION OF POSITIONS, AS AMENDED;
APPROVING CLASS SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE.POSITION OF POLICE
CADET.
WHEREAS the Personnel Commission has reviewed and recommends
approval of class specification for Police Cadet;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina,
• California, does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. The class specification for Police Cadet
attached and marked "Exhibit A," is hereby adopted.
SECTION 2. Resolution No. 7223, as amended, relating to
classification and compensation of positions, is hereby amended'by
this resolution.
SECTION 3. The effective date of this resolution is
January 12, 1987.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution.

POLICE CADET
Job Summary
Under general supervision performs general law enforcement related support
duties.
Representative Duties
1. Searches files for information and records on arrested persons and
suspects;
2. May index case reports;
3. Operates inter -department as well as statewide criminal information
computer systems to send and receive messages;
4. Under direct supervision, gives information regarding cases and prior
records to qualified persons;
5. Operates, repairs and maintains police automotive equipment;
6. Operates standard office equipment;
7. Assists in compiling and tabulating statistical data;
8. Performs clerical work as required;
9. Maintains files and index card systems;
10. Gives information regarding standard department matters over counter
and telephone;
11. Maintains and disperses necessary bulk police and clerical supplies;
12. Performs jailer duties as they relate to booking and custodial care of
arrestees;
13. Performs such other related duties as may be required or instructed by
supervisors.

Position Characteristics
• The cadets basic assignment is to the Administrative Support Division.
They may be given assignments as jailers, police vehicle maintenance,
general administrative support duties, relief desk officer (for non -sworn
duties only), and other related duties as assigned. This position may be
considered in determining the individuals suitability for promotion to other
positions within law enforcement.
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school or G.E.D. Certificate
,is required.
Knowledge and Abilities
No similar experience
A high degree of general intelligence, verbal facility, memory, and
adaptability are required.
Must have the ability to understand and carry out departmental policies,
rules, and instructions; to write clear and concise reports, using good
English and vocabulary; to use good verbal skills and be able to
understand oral directions.
Physical Requirements
AGE: 17 to 20 years old; must be appointed prior to twentieth
birthday.
WEIGHT: In proportion to height.
HEARING: Will be good and without defect.
VISION: Minimum uncorrected 20/70, correctable to 20/20, and without color
blindness.
Licenses
Must possess a valid California Drivers License.
