A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 1277 RELATING TO CLASSIFI-
CATION AND COMPENSATION OF POSITIONS, AS AMENDED; AND APPENDIX
A OF RESOLUTION NO. 7127, THE CITY'S SALARY RANGE STRUCTURE FOR
EMPLOYEES IN THE WEST COVINA CITY GENERAL EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION,
AS AMENDED; APPROVING THE CLASS SPECIFICATION AND SALARY RANGE
FOR THE POSITION OF JAILER.
WHEREAS the Personnel Commission has reviewed and recommends approval
of the Class Specification for Jailer; and
WHEREAS the Personnel Commission has reviewed and recommends approval
19of a salary range of-$+449`to $1823 for the Jailer Class; and

NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina, California
does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to the recommendation of the Personnel Commission
of the City of West Covina, the class specification for Jailer, attached hereto
and marked "Exhibit A", and by this reference is incorporated herein, is hereby
adopted.
SECTION 2. Resolution No. 1277, as amended, relating to classification
and compensation of positions is hereby amended to include the class specification
for Jailer; and
SECTION 3. Appendix "A" of Resolution No. 7127, relating to employees
in the West Covina Employees' Association, as amended, is hereby amended. The
salary range of the Jailer shall be $1499 to $1823.
SECTION 4. The remaining provisions of Resolution No. 1277 as amended
and Resolution No. 7127 as amended shall remain in full force until amended or
repealed by resolution of the City Council.
SECTION 5. The effective date of this resolution is May 27, 1986.
SECTION 6. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolu-
tion.

JAILER
Job Summary
• A Jailer is a non -sworn, uniformed position in the Police Department.
Under general supervision operates and maintains prisoner custody facili-
ties, processes and cares for the health, safety and welfare, and transport
of persons in custody, and does other related work as assigned.

Representative Duties
Under general supervision, operates -Police Department jail facility.
1. Receives and processes prisoners.
2. Books, photographs, and fingerprints suspects.
3. Maintains records related to suspects in custody.
4. Observes and checks persons in custody to assure their health and
safety.
5. Issues food and supplies.
6. Returns prisoners property.
7. Receives and accounts for bail monies.
8. Prepares prisoners for court appearances and transports and releases
prisoners to the custody of the court.
9. Performs other related work as assigned.
Employees shall be required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends.
QUALIFICATION GUIDE
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school or equivalent. 'College level courses in
police science/jail management is desirable. Typing at 15 words per
minute required.
Knowledge and Abilities
A high degree of general intelligence, memory, and adaptability are re-
quired of all Jailers. Must possess knowledge of correct English usage
(both written and verbal), and record keeping; ability to learn, under-
stand, and interpret laws and regulations, to follow directions, and
to deal effectively with the public and prisoners.
Licenses and Certificates
Valid class 3 California drivers license.
