A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF WEST COVINA,
CALIFORNIA, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 1277 RELATING TO CLASSIFICATION
AND COMPENSATION OF POSITIONS AS AMENDED, APPROVING THE CLASS
SPECIFICATION OF PLANNING TECHNICIAN IN THE PLANNING DEPARTMENT.
• WHEREAS the Personnel Commission has reviewed and recommends approval
of a change in class specification for Planning Technician in the Planning
Department;, and
■� WHEREAS the recommended change more closely reflects the skills,
knowledge, and abilities required to perform the duties of the position; and
• WHEREAS the recommended change enchances the career options of the
incumbent;
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of West Covina,
California, does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. Pursuant to the recommendation of the Personnel Commission
of the City of West Covina, the revised class specification for Planning
Technician attached hereto and marked "Exhibit A" and by this reference
incorporated herein, is hereby adopted.
SECTION 2. Resolution No. 1277, as amended, relating to
classification and compensation of positions is hereby amended to include
the revised classification for Planning Technician
SECTION 3. The remaining provisions of Resolution No. 1277, as
amended, shall remain in full force and effect until amended or repealed by
resolution of the City Council.
SECTION 4. The effective date of this.Resolution is July 22, 1985.
.SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this
resolution.

CLASS SPECIFICATION
JULY 1985
PLANNING TECHNICIAN
Job Summary
• Under supervision performs assigned technical drafting and standard
graphic illustration work in the preparation of planning studies
and reports; assists in collecting and tabulating data and information
relative to land use, population and economic characteristics of
the City.
Representative Duties
Uses drafting instruments in producing finished drawings for
presentations, prepares charts, base maps, and other graphic material;
records data and assembles information used in land use and other
planning reports and studies; answers questions at the counter and
over the telephone relative to planning and zoning, assists in
maintenance of planning data bank, maps and files.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
Training and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in planning, architecture, landscape 'architecture,
or related field, supplemented by courses in drafting or drafting
experience. Experience in drafting, planning or related field may
be substituted for education on a year for year basis up to two years
maximum.
Knowledges and Abilities
Knowledge of: principles of graphic presentations and research
methods; art media, and illustration techniques as related to City
planning; City planning fundamentals; reproduction methods, and
arithmetic and elementary statistics.
is Ability to: read and analyze and apply a variety of technical
materials accurately and quickly; correlate and organize statistical
materials into clear graphic presentations; to interpret architectural
drawings; work harmoniously and effectively with the public and
department and Ctiy personnel.
Skills
Ability to do drafting to scale; line drawings, maps, charts, etc.
Licenses
A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
