RESOLUTION NO. 6-1'55
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF WEST COVINA, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING ITS
INTENT TO ABANDON THE PARK HEREIN DESCRIBED
SETTING A PROTEST HEARING ON THIS MATTER FOR
SEPTEMBER 8, 1980.
WHEREAS, Section 38400 et seq of the Government Code
sets forth the procedure that must be followed to permit the aban-
donment and sale of an existing park; and
WHEREAS, the park site located northeasterly of the
easterly terminus of Aroma Drive, described in Exhibit No.l is an
existing park site used almost.exclusively by the San Jose Little
League; and
WHEREAS, the original dedicator has given his consent
for the City of West Covina to abandon this park,_site; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the subject park
site meets the requirements in Section 38403 of the Government Code
to permit the consideration of abandonment of this park; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that this site is not
appropriate, convenient or necessary for park purposes in that the
loss of San Jose Ballfield No. 1 leaves the League with an inadequate
number of ballfields; access to the site is inconvenient; parking
will be a problem for the site users and adjacent property owners;
• public safety and health will be affected; and'
WHEREAS, pursuant to the adopted General Plan of the
City of West Covina, the subject area is to be served by the neighbor-
hood park located west,.of.Azusa Avenue,.south of Fairgrove Avenue and
by Shadowoak Community Park; and
WHEREAS, it is proposed to use the proceeds from the
sale of.this site to develop the above mentioned neighborhood park
and,to install a little League ballfield at Shadowoak Park pursuant
to Section 38418 of the Government Code; and
WHEREAS,the City is obtaining approximately twe:lve'_.
acres of land to be added to Galster Park.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of
the City of West Covina declares, its intent'to abandon the park here-
in described and setting a protest hearing on this matter for
Septmeber 8, 1980.
I HEARBY CERTIFY that the foregoing Resolution was adopted
by the City Council of the City of West Covina, California, at its
meeting of July 14, 1980.
