Resolution - 16REISOLUTION Urgingr greatly increased courtesy to the thousands of tourists who visit West Covina, I'layor P.R. Jackson, sponsor of a courtesy resolution adopted at the last meeting of the city council, today declared every citizen can perform individual acts of friendliness when people of other states are encountered. "Any tourist appreciates being greetod by a genial wave of the hand," he said, "and I am certain our toT.,insmen will be glad 'to expend the little effort required to make this friendly gesture. "If everyone joins with a will in the prevailing courtesy move- ment, sponsored by the All -Year Club of Southern California, which for 16 years has been engaged in developing our tourist -traffic, we rightly will deserve the title, "Friendly Vacationland.11 P ointing out that virtually every tourist is seeking advice on what to see and how to get there, Mayor Jackson further urged that citizens acquaint themselves with Southern California's points of interest., either from guide books or per&=al visits, that they may give accurate information to bew-ildered visitors from other states. The motorist, he continued, can go far In making tourists feel they are welcome. Among other courtesy acts, he suggested letting tourists' cars have the right-of-way at intersections., not trying to beat them out of a parking place at the curb, and in driving alongside them, to ,Volunteer advice, when they are seen hesitating at a sign board. "If we are t-iiore courteous to visitors," the mayor continued,"Te will acQuire the courtesy habit, and will be more polite among ourselves." Mayor Jackson pointed out that last year tourists spent 0189,000.,000 in Southern California, of which this community re- ceived its share. Tourists keep many people employed, he said and their money is passed from hand to hand, reaching every walk of life. This should be a splendid touxist year, he addtd, as the All -Year Club already has predicted a total of one million visitors for the summer months, alone. The foregoing resolution was offered by Councilman Lovider, seconded by Councilman Hedges, and was unanimously adopted. City Clerk.
