Memorandum
AGENDA.
ITEM NO. B-8d
DATE Fehruary 3, 1998
® PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER .
The Environmental Services Department seeks to change its name to
Environmental Management Department to reflect the consolidation of
the Environmental Services Department with the Waste Management
Enforcement Agency.
In December 190, the Environmental Services Director. retired and the position was
eliminated. Since the former director's retirement, the majority of his responsibilities have
been reassigned and consolidated under the Waste Management Enforcement Agency
Manager.
Because of the integration of the two Departments (Environmental Services and Waste
Management Enforcement Agency), a new Director's level classification called the
Environmental Management Director was recommended and approved at the January 8,
1998 Personnel Commission Hearing.
Staff considered a Department name change to Environmental Management to reflect the
integration of the two Departments and the new Director's classification specification.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The consolidation of the two Departments is consistent with the City's continuing need to
create efficiencies. There is no fiscal impact on the name change since no change in
compensation is recommended as part of this action.
