SUBJECT: AUTHORIZE PURCHASE OF PICNIC TABLES AND BENCHES FOR
MAVERICK BASEBALL FIELD AND RIDGE RIDERS ARENA i
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council authorize the Public Works Department to expend
$14,000 from Capital Improvement Program Account Number 143-320-3285-7700 for the
purchase of picnic tables and benches to the Maverick Baseball Field'and Ridge Riders Arena
area.
DISCUSSION:
During the 2001-2002 budget process, the City Council approved a Capital Improvement Project
in the amount of $100,000 for miscellaneous improvements to Maverick Baseball Field and
Ridge Riders Arena. The project has been on hold pending the completion and approval of a
Master Plan for this newly dedicated recreation facility. The City Council directed staff to
acquire approval prior to expending any project funds for this facility.
Although the park Master Plan has not been completed for this facility, there are several
improvements that are required at this time. The wooden benches and picnic tables near the
Ridge Riders Arena are dry rotted and dilapidated. There are no picnic tables near the Maverick
Baseball Field. These items could easily be relocated at a later time if required by the Master
Plan.
Staff is requesting to purchase twelve metal picnic tables and fifteen metal benches. Four of the
picnic tables will be placed near the Maverick Baseball Field snack bar. The other picnic tables
and benches will replace the rotted ones surrounding the Ridge Riders Arena.
ALTERNATIVES:
The alternative is to delay the completion of any improvements until the Specific Plan is
completed and approved; however, the dilapidated equipment should be removed which will
leave no picnic tables or benches for public use.
FISCAL IMPACT:
On July 3, 2001, the City Council approved the 2001-2002 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
The CIP included $100,000 for miscellaneous improvements to the Maverick Baseball Field and
Ridge Riders Arena under Account Number 143-320-3285-7700 (Park Bond Funds). Fourteen
thousand dollars is needed to complete the purchase of the picnic tables and benches for the
Maverick Baseball Field and Ridge Riders Arena. This money will purchase twelve metal picnic
tables at $700 each and fifteen metal benches at $300 each.
