CURBIAND GUTTER REPAIR AND SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION
- APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS
SUMMARY: Plans and specifications have been .completed for Project No. SP-
98103, which provides for the repair of damaged curb, gutter,
sidewalk, and driveway aprons, in various locations citywide.
Estimated cost for this project is $150,000.
BACKGROUND
The City repairs damaged curb, gutter and driveway aprons each year in an effort to
maintain its existing infrastructure at an acceptable level. This damage may be caused by
extensive wear and tear, subgrade settlement, or growth of tree roots.

effective manner. This will reduce potential public liability and reduce damage to the
existing asphaltic pavement by restoring the designed street drainage pattern. This
project will also aid the City's maintenance efforts.
Pursuant to the California Environmental Quality. Act, State Guidelines, Section 15302-
Class 2, the aforesaid improvements are of a minor nature and, therefore, excempt
from the requirements for Environmental Impact , Report or Negative Declaration of
Environmental Impact.
FISCAL IMPACT
The estimated total cost for this project is as follows:
1. Construction Cost $125,400
2. Preliminaary Engineering 6,000
3. Construction Engineering, Inspection 10,000
4. Contingencies 8,600
Total Project Cost Estimate: $150,000

Total Cost: $170,000
ALTERNATIVES
The only viable alternative to this project is to perform the task in-house which requires
hiring more full-time personnel, purchasing and/or renting additional equipment and
appropriating additional funds.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve the plans and specifications for Project
No. SP-98103, and authorize the City Engineer to call for bids.
