PROVIDE ALUMINUM BLEACHERS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS
- AWARD OF BID
SUMMARY: On January 30, 1996, one bid was received and opened for this
project which provides aluminum bleachers for various little
leagues in the City. The lowest responsible bid was $34,581.40
from Aluminum Seating Inc. of San Bernardino.
BACKGROUND
Over the past twenty years, many little leagues have constructed or purchased temporary wood
and concrete bleachers. ;Over time, they have deteriorated and need to be replaced due to high
maintenance and safety reasons. Existing bleachers do not have safety rails and the wood seats
are split and spectators are constantly getting splinters. During the 1995-96 Capital
Improvement Program, the City Council approved these projects which include four - seven row
bleachers at Del Norte Park, two - nine row bleachers at Walmerado Park, and two - seven row
bleachers at Hollencrest Middle School.
Requests for bids were advertised in the San Gabriel Tribune on January 19, 1996 and January
25, 1996. It was also advertised in the Dodge Green Sheet. On January 30, 1996, one bid was
opened and reviewed in the office of the City Clerk. The bid was as follow:

Staff has reviewed the bid of Aluminum Seating Inc. and has found it to be complete and within
the estimated cost. In addition, Aluminum Seating Inc. has done numerous City projects and has
always done quality work in a timely manner. This company is also in good standing with the
State Contractors Board.

ALTERNATIVES
Reject all bids and re -advertise. Since a favorable bid was received, it is unlikely that costs
would reduce any further.
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council accept the bid of Aluminum Seating Inc. in the
amount of $34,581.40 as submitted on January 30, 1996 and authorize the Mayor and City
Clerk to xecute an eement with said Aluminum Seating Inc. for work to be done.
