SP-95104 CURB AND GUTTER REPAIR City of West Covina Memorandum AGENDA ITEM NO. C-10—c DATE February 7, 1995 (SPRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER SUMMARY: Twelve (12) bids were received and opened on Thursday, January 26 1995, for this project which provides for the repair of damaged curb, gutter, a nd driveways and cross gutters. The lowest responsible bid is $34,076.00 from Grigolla and Sons Construction Co., Inc. of BACKGROUND At the City Council meeting of December 20, 1994, the City Council approved plans and specifications for this project and authorized the City Engineer to call for bids. The bids for this project were opened in the office of the City Clerk on Thursday, January 26, 1995. A total of Twelve (12) bids were received and checked for errors, and all were determined to be valid. The project consists of removal, hauling, and replacement of existing damaged curb, gutter, driveways, cross guttersf and all incidental and appurtenant work at various locations - Citywide (see attached list). ANALYSIS j The estimated cost for this project, as submitted in our memorandum dated November 16, 1993, was as $50,000: The actual construction cost of the lowest responsible bidder is $34,076.00. The attached. tabulation indicates the summaryof bids as received. Since a lower than anticipated bid was received, staff will consider adding to the Scope of Work. These are a few more locations that need curb and gutter repair but, were not included in the original scope due to an anticipate funding shortfall. To allow for this added work, a higher contingency amount than -normal is indicated under fiscal impact. FISCAL IMPACT The funds available for SP-95104 awd95104 project are as follows: Maintenance District Funds) 1 $ 50,000 City Manager and City Council February 7, 1995 Page Two FISCAL IMPACT (continue) Funding should be provided as follows: (1) Construction Contr act as Bid (38 locations) $ 34,076 (2) Preliminary Engineering 2,000 (3) Construction Engineering, Inspection 2,000 (4) Contingencies 11,924 TOTAL PROJECT COST ESTIMATE $ 50,000 ALTERNATIVES The only alternative is to reject all bids and re -advertise.. Since a highly competitive favorable bid was received, it is unlikely that costs would be reduced any further.. RECONEUENDATION It is recommended that the City Council accept the bid of Grigolla and Sons Construction Co., Inc. of Azusa, in the amount of $34,076.00, as submitted at the bid opening of Thursday, January 26, 1995, and authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute an Agreement with said Grigolla and Sons Construction Co., Inc. of Azusa for the work to be done. ,Patrick J.
