SP-00102 - STREET BARRIER "REMOVAL - AWARD OF BID SUMMARY: Four bids were received and opened on Tuesday, December 27, 1999, for this project. The lowest responsive bid was $36,575.00 from Ranco Corporation of Brea, California. BACKGROUND: -The construction of wheelchair ramps on the City's street system is vital for the mobility of physically challenged people. The federal and State governments have mandated, and the City requires, the construction of wheelchair ramps for all new developments and street construction projects. In addition, wheelchair ramps have been placed at numerous other locations based on accessibility needs. At the City Council meeting of December 7, 1999, the City Council approved plans and specifications'for this project and authorized the City Engineer to call for bids. A notice inviting bids was advertised in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune on December 10, 1999 and December 17, 1999. In addition, the project was advertised in the Contractors' Green Sheet and Daily Construction Service, which advises contractors of upcoming projects in Southern California. The bids for this project were opened in the office of the City Clerk on Tuesday, December 27, 1999. A total of four bids were. received and checked for errors, and all were determined to be valid. The project consists of removal of existing concrete curb, gutter, sidewalk, and related asphaltic pavement and the construction of new concrete wheelchair ramps in accordance with the State of California standard drawings including all appurtenant and incidental work. ANALYSIS: The estimated construction cost for this project, as submitted in our memorandum dated December 7, 1999, was $42,000 and the total estimated cost was $50,000.
