AGENDA
ITEM NO. C— 7— q
DATE FEBRUARY 6, 1996
SPRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER
POLICE DEPARTMENT COMPUTER' USER LICENSE
SUMMARY: The Police Department must increase the concurrent user license on its
Hewlett-Packard Computer in order to meet the demand created by the growth of the
Computer Enterprise project.
BACKGROUND: The Police Department's Records Management System (RMS) and
Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD) run on our Hewlett-Packard 3000 computer. In
addition to our Department, five other Police Departments (Corona, Seal Beach, Los
Alamitos, Cypress, and El Monte) also run their RMS and CAD systems on our
computer. We currently have a 160 concurrent user license for our HP computer. With
the addition of these other agencies, we easily reach our maximum user count which
prevents any other users from accessing the system.
We will be increasing our concurrent user license to an unlimited number of users. This
will meet our current needs and any future additions to the Computer Enterprise project.
Hewlett-Packard is the only source available to increase our concurrent user license.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Police Department will purchase an unlimited user license from
Hewlett-Packard for atotal cost of $28,860. Drug Enforcement Rebate moneys have
been budgeted and approved by Council for this purchase.
