SUBJECT: JUVENTINO MARQUEZ VS. CITY OF WEST COVINA
SUMMARY: On November 1, 1999, the City Clerk's Office received a claim for monetary
loss in the amount of $85.
DISCUSSION:
The claimant alleges that while searching his yard for a suspect, West Covina police
officers shot his dog in the mouth. Claimant is seeking reimbursement for the veterinary
bill in the amount of $85.
After a thorough investigation and review of this matter, the City's claims administrator,
Colen and Lee, recommends denial.
As you are aware, since all claims should be considered potential lawsuits, it is requested
that all Councilmembers refrain from making specific public comments so as not to
prejudice any claim. Specific questions should be referred to the City Attorney.
RECOMMENDATION
That the claim of Juventino Marquez filed on November 1, 1999, be denied and the
claimant be so notified.
