Because "Points of Profit" has not met since the last Commission meeting,
Commissioner Kowaaski will have adidtional information at the February
Commission meeting. Staff shared informatiqn on- "Welfare Reform", giving
Commission members data.

2. Reoort from BINGO - Carol Elam and Kathleen Miller reported that BINGO
gave $5,418 in
�1995 and .59,536 in 1996 to the Senior Center. They
also gave $2,000 in' 1995 and $23,000 in 1996 to other charities. They
have an average of 150 to 160 players every Saturday with 35 volunteers
providing all services. Commissioners expressed their appreciation and
congratulations for all that they have done and continue to do. BINGO
also said they would "welcome any Commissioner that would like to
volunteer."
3. Water "Base Rate/Service Charge" - After discussion of written report,
Commission requested that a representative from the West Covina Water
Department attend the next meeting to answer specific questions.

IX. COMMISSIONER REPORTS
Commissioner Pahner asked each Commissioner to share something' about
themselves.
Deniston - Shared about herself. Informed Commission that Line 49 of
Income Tax is a special designation for donations to the Senior Legislature.
She also shared that the Centers' Volunteer Program would be meeting on
January 21 at 1 p.m.
Buckingham - Shared about himself. No additional report.
Graz - Shared about himself. Questioned Senior Commission's role with
City Council. Councilwoman Manners stated that the role was "to study
related issues and to make recommendations to Council." She agreed to
meet with Commissioner Gratz to discuss other concerns.
Harine h - Shared about himself. Agreed to be, Commission's
representative on the Senior Center Support Group.
Kowalski - Shared about herself. Brought request from Vince Teresi,
Chairperson of the Senior Center Support Group. They would like to have
trees planted down the center of the southwest parking lot to provide
shade. After discussion, the Commission asked.Staff to have a feasibility
study done and to report at next Commission meeting. Commissioner
Kowalski questioned Proposition 208, asking Staff to follow up on
Commissioners' boundaries as it relates to campaign donations and
volunteer services. She shared that she was still having questions about
letter to the editor regarding home bound.
Markowitz - Shared about herself. She was spending a great deal of time
with friends that needed assistance.
Pahner - Shared about herself. She congratulated Commissioner
Buckingham .upon his nomination as Citizen of the Year. She invited
Commissioners to join the Chamber of Commerce as an individual, stating
that they offered any beneficial programs. Commissioner Pahner asked
Staff to follow up with the Police Chief, Fire Chief and Postmaster
regarding reaching the homebound. Staff agreed to contact them to try
and establish a program between the four. agencies (Police, Fire, Post
Office and Senior Services). Staff will report at . the next Commission
.meeting.
Commissioner Pahner also asked that in an effort to address Commissioner
Gratz's concerns, that the Commissioner's Handbook be looked at, at the
next meeting.

r The Commission adjourned at 4:30 p.m. to the next Regular Senior Citizens
Commission meeting on Thursday, February 13, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. in
Room 314 of the West Covina City Hall.
