SUBJECT: Purchase of 4" Fire Hose DATE January 4, 2000 ®PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER SUMMARY: Replacement of worn and damaged rubber 4" fire hose with new 4" hose and fttings. BACKGROUND: City Council approved the purchase of 4" hose and fittings in the 1999-2000 Capital Improvement Project Budget (CIP Project #G99-5). This purchase will complete the replacement of all 4" hose within the Fire Department. DISCUSSION: The 4" hose on five fire. engines needs to be replaced. This hose has exceeded its service life and is beginning to fail. The 4" hose on Paramedic Engine 73 and Paramedic Engine 75 was replaced in the 1998-1999 budget year due to the immediate need. This hose replacement also addresses a fittings compatibility issue with all surrounding jurisdictions. The West Covina Fire Department will be changing to National Standard Threads on all of our 4" hose. FISCAL IMPACT: This was a budgeted CIP item that was not to exceed $20,600: The total cost of hose and fittings is $25,341.51. Account #110-320-3021-7900 has $20,000.00 budgeted for the hose replacement: Account #110-320-2181-6270 provides the balance of $5,341.51 for fittings.' RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council take the following actions: a) Accept the bid of $25,341.51 from Allstar Fire.Equipment. Allstar Fire Equipment was the only respondent to the open bid process. b) Authorize an expenditure of $20,000.00 from account #110-320-3021-7900 (CIP Project #G99-5) and $5,341.51 from Account #110-320-2181-6270 for the purchase of 4" fire hose and fittings, c) Authorize the Fire Chief to execute an agreement for the purchase of the 4" fire i hose and fittings: Prepared by: 9T- Jerry J son Battalion Chief - Reviewed and approved by: Richard E.
