Memorandum
TO: City Manager and City Council AGENDA
FROM:, Richard E. Greene, Fire Chief B-6e
ITEM NO.
SUBJECT: Purchase of 4" Fire Hose DATE January 4, 2000
®PRINTED ON RECYCLED PAPER
SUMMARY: Replacement of worn and damaged rubber 4" fire hose with new 4" hose and
fttings.
BACKGROUND:
City Council approved the purchase of 4" hose and fittings in the 1999-2000 Capital
Improvement Project Budget (CIP Project #G99-5). This purchase will complete the
replacement of all 4" hose within the Fire Department.
DISCUSSION:
The 4" hose on five fire. engines needs to be replaced. This hose has exceeded its service life and
is beginning to fail. The 4" hose on Paramedic Engine 73 and Paramedic Engine 75 was
replaced in the 1998-1999 budget year due to the immediate need. This hose replacement also
addresses a fittings compatibility issue with all surrounding jurisdictions. The West Covina Fire
Department will be changing to National Standard Threads on all of our 4" hose.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This was a budgeted CIP item that was not to exceed $20,600: The total cost of hose and fittings
is $25,341.51. Account #110-320-3021-7900 has $20,000.00 budgeted for the hose replacement:
Account #110-320-2181-6270 provides the balance of $5,341.51 for fittings.'
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council take the following actions:
a) Accept the bid of $25,341.51 from Allstar Fire.Equipment. Allstar Fire
Equipment was the only respondent to the open bid process.
b) Authorize an expenditure of $20,000.00 from account #110-320-3021-7900
