The Fire Department participates in the California Joint Apprenticeship Program which credits
department training programs for adult education. The program makes funds available that may
be used to purchase equipment. Fire Department policy is to use this outside source to enhance
department training activities. The Fire Department has identified that swift water rescue°i
equipment will improve the effectiveness of our training program. This equipment has been
given to the Fire Department through the Apprentice Program and has the value of $2,500.00.
BACKGROUND:
The California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Program is funded by the State of California
from funds designated for adult education. The Department becomes eligible for apprenticeship
assistance by conducting in-house training activities related to State certification and re-
certification of firefighters. The Department receives credits for each hour of training that has
been pre -approved by the State. Current balance of credits is approximately $4,500.00.
State apprenticeship funds of approximately $2,500.00 will be paid by the funds director 'of field
services. The equipment has been delivered to the Fire Department by the vendor. The
equipment will be tagged as City inventory and will become the property of the City of West
Covina.
RECOMMENDATION:
This report is informational and the Council need take no action.
It is recommended the West Covina City Council receive and file this report.
