SUBJECT: CITY OF WEST COVINA 4" OF JULY CELEBRATION FIREWORKS
DISPLAY DATE TO BE ON SUNDAY, JULY 2, 2006
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Council approve the 4`h of July Celebration firework display
change of date to July 2, 2006.
DISCUSSION:
At the West Covina City Council meeting, staff was requested to explore the possibility of
moving the 4`h of July Celebration date to July 2, 2006. The purpose of changing the celebration
date is to continue the City's coordination and support of the Muscular Distrophy Association's
planned events for the weekend. The coordination would keep with tradition of having the
display of fireworks concurrent with MDA's program events.
Staff has looked into the possibility of moving the event to July 2 and foresee. no fiscal,
operational, or contractual impacts that would interfere with having the 4'h of July Celebration
moved to Sunday, July 2, 2006.
Police, Fire, Public Works and Community Services Departments are prepared for the change
with no impacts.
July 2005 was the end of the last Firework Display contract, therefore, staff is currently soliciting
for a new three-year contract.
ALTERNATIVES:
The City Council may:
1) Move the City's 41h of July Celebration to July 2, 2006
2) Hold the City's 41h of July Celebration on Tuesday, July 4, 2006
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
